Improbable Things

My dog is a wuss

We had snow. For one glorious morning, we had totally normal fluffy snow. I made the most of it, taking WeeE to the gardens, making snowballs, eating some snow when we got home. We get this once every few years anymore, so you can't pass up the opportunities.

Hundchen, though, can't be bothered. As Bill notes, mini-dachshunds have a design flaw. They are a tad too close to the ground, so when there is snow, his wee willy plows in the cold. He walks all hunched up, but really there is nothing for it.

WeeE doesn't grasp that greater design issue, but is well aware that Hundchen is a weather wimp. After our walk, she decided he needed a hat and snowboots. I tapped my desktop publishing abilities and whipped up this activity in InDesign. She loves it! We have now made 4 Hundchens and 4 "Fossies". It's probably key that the boots are Disney princess boots.

By the next morning, the snow was covered in ice and the president was making fun of all DC for being wusses. Yes. we are, with my dog as leader of the pack.

Why does my dachshund smell like Desitin?

I wonder. Could it be that he was being used as a canvas by a certain toddler?

I paused long enough to consider taking a picture, but Hundchen looked really miserable. Sophie was 'painted' a bit too, but Peter's short coat apparently made a better surface.

Just another reminder that quiet children are always up to no good.

Sheep. Dog.

Alpaca Fro Poor Sophia

Ok. So that's not a sheep, but somehow I went the MD Sheep and Wool Festival and only took pictures of funny looking alpacas and little lambs. But Sophia looks more like a shorn alpaca than a shorn sheep, which is a testament to how well I avoid her plumping up!

The MD Sheep and Wool festival was, for those that doubt my sanity, a true treat!

Home Movies

You'd think B, what with his advanced degrees in media and his career in video, would be the one to finally start making dorky home videos of the child. But no, it's me. With nothing more than a digital camera... the kid - she is cute. And only I really get to see it, which seems unfortunate. So, in the interest of doing my part to crush the internet under pictures of babies and dogs, I have made available a series of Lilibet Shorts. On the sidebar (look right) there is a list under Home Movies. Click any and voilà, our newest film starlet appears (courtesy of YouTube). The sound - it sucks - so don't bother trying to turn up the volume. I'll add new ones as our production schedule allows.

The newest Lilibet Short stars not only our leading lady, but showcases a star performance from the primadonna of the family: Hündchen. Enjoy.

Auntie M got me started on some knitting and (believe it or not) I finished the baby blanket and I am THIS close to finishing a scarf I started, er, about a year ago. (Yes, Jen, your scarf! There are witnesses!)

Handmade from Auntie M The picture actually documents that Auntie M has made a sweater, hat AND quilt - and that we use all of them!

But my good knitting intentions might be slowed by the introduction of a completely addicitive book: The Time Traveler's Wife. At the rate I am devouring it though I should be done in a day or two.

Must. Go. Read.

Fuzzy Wuzzy wuz a....

...Terv! Bill's been campaigning for years to get Sophia a summer cut. With the house and the baby, we decided this year was a good year to get the dog groomed, so that at least dealing with grooming and the massive rhinos of hair would not drive us nutty.

She loved it! She's been so happy since coming home. She's super soft and fuzzy and looks like an 8 month old Terv (before they turn dark). She just wants to be petted constantly, so I'm figuring it feels really good.
